Can you pass the RES examination on the first attempt?
Yes, but no course, revision method or provider can guarantee that outcome. The Real Estate Salesperson examination assesses a broad regulatory and practical syllabus. A better goal is to meet every eligibility requirement, learn the syllabus accurately and use timed practice to identify weak areas before the examination.
Start with the official pathway
- Check the current eligibility and education requirements.
- Complete the RES course with a CEA Approved Course Provider, unless an official exemption applies.
- Meet the course attendance requirement and obtain a valid Certificate of RES Course Completion.
- Follow CEA's current examination application process.
- After passing, apply for registration through a licensed estate agent; passing the examination alone does not authorise estate agency work.
Prepare from the syllabus, not shortcuts
Use CEA's current examination syllabus and sample questions as the source of truth. Build a study plan across both papers, practise applying rules to scenarios, review incorrect answers and reserve time for timed full-paper practice.
Plan for administration as well as study
Course certificates and modular passes have validity rules, and examination places may be limited. Keep copies of official records, monitor registration windows and do not resign from employment or make financial commitments based on an assumed examination result.
After the examination
CEA publishes the current process for results, modular retakes and appeals. Candidates who pass must still satisfy the prevailing registration criteria and be submitted by a licensed estate agent.
