Five checks before sharing a home
- Confirm that the property and occupants are eligible for the proposed rental arrangement.
- Agree on rent, deposits, utilities, repairs and shared expenses in writing.
- Set expectations for guests, privacy, cleaning and quiet hours.
- Document inventory, condition and the process for replacing an occupant.
- Use current official rental statistics and seek advice on the tenancy agreement.
